Boston's PACT program- Community Health Workers improve HIV care

Dr. Heidi Behforouz, Harvard Professor and director of the PACT program, was the keynote speaker at the Doctors for Global Health General Assembly in Boston on Aug. 12th.  Her work shows that community health workers (CHWs) are a critical part of the health care team in chronic disease management.  For example, CHWs working with patients that have HIV can significantly increase CD4 count, and reduce hospitalizations and hospital length of stay.  Stay tuned to HealthBegins for a more detailed…

Mississippi and...Iran? NYT Magazine article 7.29.12

Just reading this article from last week's NYT Magazine. It offers a great perspective on the potential for HealthBegins to influence health care costs and outcomes. My understanding is that Aaron Shirley was really one of the CHC pioneers--with Geiger and Gibson--and he's clearly still at it.
