Exciting news from the Connecticut Association of Directors of Health, where they describe how local health departments are refining a Health Equity Index. Dr. Heidi Behforouz, Harvard Professor and director of the PACT program, was the keynote speaker at the Doctors for Global Health General Assembly in Boston on Aug. 12th. Her work shows that community health workers (CHWs) are a critical part of the health care team in chronic disease management. Just reading this article from last week's NYT Magazine. It offers a great perspective on the potential for HealthBegins to influence health care costs and outcomes. My understanding is that Aaron Shirley was really one of the CHC pioneers--with Geiger and Gibson--and he's clearly still at it.
